Position Details:

Job Title: Validation Engineer

Location: Plymouth, MI - 48170

Duration: Up to 12 months

Shift: 1 st

Job Description:

  • Develop, optimize and manage test plans that are used to evaluate and/or validate seating.
  • Serve as technical resource for customer, federal, and/or test specifications and methods.
  • Provides results reporting for completed tests and program status.

Required Experience:

  • 3-8 years in seating and/or validation engineering. Complete Seat validation experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of automotive test methods and automotive test specifications
  • Post-test data interpretation and /or analysis experience
  • Experience with statistical practice and /or tools
  • Test lab experience (equipment, methods, instruments) is a plus

Specific Duties:

  • Development of test plans in accordance with customer, federal, and/or company specific requirements.
  • Program coordination of test plans, including samples, add-on parts, special weights, fixtures, schedules, sign-offs, witnessing tests, and sample reviews.
  • Manage a test schedule using validation database, and/or customer specific format.
  • Understand customer, regulatory, and/or company specific requirements and test methods.
  • Consistent use of validation process protocols such as Issue Tracking, ED/DV/PV, DVP Structure, Naming Conventions, PV FTP, Spec Updating Process, PD2.
  • Serve as key contact person between product development team and test labs.
  • Lead ATR/Global template activities to determine specific test setup information and understanding of FEA predicted performance.
  • Develop optimization plans for test samples using acceptable practices.
  • Support internal and/or external customer meetings and reviews as required.
  • Provide clear instruction(s) on how a test should be setup and conducted.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate test sample sizes (n) in accordance to test requirements.
  • Review of data and reporting of all tests (including final disposition of results).
  • Support product development team on pre/post test sample reviews as required.

Required Skills:

  • Manage validation planning and execution including test plans, samples, fixtures, schedules, sign-offs, witness tests, and sample reviews
  • Develop, optimize and manage test plans in accordance with customer, federal, and/or specific requirements
  • Develop optimization plans for test samples using acceptable practices
  • Recommend appropriate test sample sizes (n) in accordance to test requirements
  • Serve as technical resource for customer, federal, and/or test specifications and methods
  • Review and approve physical test set-ups
  • Review data and reporting of all tests (including final disposition of results)
  • Maintain and communicate program status with customer
  • Manage a test schedule using validation database, and/or customer specific format
  • Adhere to existing validation processes such as Issue Tracking and reporting, ED/DV/PV, DVP Structure, Spec Updating Process, etc
  • Quote entire test plans, establish test budgets, garner budget approval and track performance
  • Lead Setup/Global template activities to determine specific test setup information and understanding of FEA predicted performance
  • Serve as key contact person between product development team and test labs
  • Support product development team on pre/post-test sample reviews as required

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Preferred Skills, Education, Experience:

  • Engineering / technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Automotive Test Methods and Automotive Test Specifications
  • Test lab experience (equipment, methods, instruments)
  • Post-test data interpretation and/or analysis experience
  • Experience with statistical practice and/or tools
