The Twist Data Storage team is taking data storage to the next level by developing and commercializing next generation deep archive and accessible archive storage solutions - introducing DNA as a storage medium to address the exponentially growing demand for long-term data storage.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team of engineers and scientists that are developing a revolutionary suite of Data Storage products.

In this Staff Mechanical Engineer role as an individual contributor, you will directly contribute to the analysis, design, fabrication, assembly and packaging of devices, modules, equipment, and systems for Data Storage Products. There is an opportunity for growth into a management role for the motivated individual as the group grows.

Responsibilities

  • Directly contribute to the analysis, design, fabrication, and assembly of Twist s mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging for the Advanced Development Group
  • Design and fabricate hardware for feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
  • Utilize design control functions to keep work organized
  • Identifies and works with vendors to design and procure specialized components
  • Works with outside integrators to produce Twist hardware and instrumentation
  • Work effectively with other disciplines such as Biology and Chemistry to develop hardware in a team environment

Qualifications

  • B.S., Master s degree in Mechanical engineering or similar engineering background
  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience,
  • Project management and design experience
  • Successful track record of delivering development goals on time and on budget
  • Hands-on skills to assemble, test, and validate equipment they design
  • Understanding of tolerancing and machine shop processes
  • Skilled in CAD design, Solidworks preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Cross-functional skills in fluid mechanics, optics, and electronics are desirable
  • Experience and understanding of robotics and automation
  • Experience with microfluidics including fabrication and packaging
  • Experience with microelectronic packaging and interconnect methodologies
  • Design and bring up of complex instrumentation systems
  • Design of Bioscience hardware such as sequencers, synthesizers, and laboratory automation robotics
  • Experience with fluidic systems, including delivery and supply of toxic and flammable chemicals
  • Experience with silicon fabrication processes
  • Basic machine shop fabrication skills and abilities
