Position Overview

We are adding a Project Engineer to our Kiewit Bridge and Marine District (KBM) in the Washington region. Our KBM team is comprised of experts and leaders in technical bridge construction, including cable-stayed bridges, suspension bridges, and cast-in-place and precast segmental bridges for water crossings, highway flyovers, pedestrian access, light rail guideways, and other transportation infrastructure. We are also the foremost constructor of floating bridges in the United States. The Puget Sound area is home to five of the world's dozen floating highway bridges and we have built or refurbished all of them! Our team also offers expertise in port facilities, building marine structures such as piers, wharfs, marinas, and ferry terminals, as well as providing maintenance such as dredging, jetty construction and repair. We also put this combination of marine and structures expertise to use in building and modifying dams and related structures, including spillways and fish ladders.

In this role you will be responsible for the administrative and technical aspects of constructing a project, managing a team of field and cost engineers. We expect you to be the main conduit of information between the construction manager and the team for cost, revenue, cash flow information on your assigned project. And when that project is done - we help get you to the next one!

District Overview

Kiewit's Bridge & Marine District headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, operates with heavy civil, marine, and industrial capabilities across North America. We are a leader in technical and traditional bridges, bridge like structures, marine structures, and dredge work.

Location

We currently have work all across the country in large cities and small towns, so our people must be willing to go where the work is but we provide relocation and/or travel and living assistance. Engineers for this group must be able to travel and relocate as business requires. Some of our current projects locations include, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Oregon and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Manage job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing. Will administer the contract and subcontracts for the project, oversee quality control and manage design changes on the project. Manage client relationships and subcontractor relationships.
  • Supervise, and mentor the staff to ensure project standards are met and work is completed on time and under budget, as well as encouraging/providing individual development for your team.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule to ensure work is completed on time and under budget.
  • Provide technical support in construction planning, quality control, interpretation of design, application of construction methods, resolution and documentation of design conflicts, and constructability reviews to ensure successful job completion.
  • Develop, implement and administer project engineering procedures and other work controlling documents to ensure clarification of roles.
  • Represent company, project and/or department during client and project management meetings to ensure effective communication.
  • Develop and maintain all job reporting and logs to ensure project compliance

Qualifications

  • Ability to travel and relocate as needed
  • Bachelors or Associates degree in construction-related field of engineering
  • 5+ years' work experience in construction or engineering; ideally in Bridge, Marine related, dredging or dam projects but will consider other heavy civil experience.
  • Experience managing/leading more junior engineers and willingness to continue to mentor/lead others
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
