Summary of Role:

GlobalFoundries Fab8 is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Member of Technical Staff, Process Engineer, Diffusion (DIF) module to become a part of our 300mm wafer fabrication facility in Malta, New York, GlobalFoundries. This position will report to the Fab8 DIF Process Manager with the primary responsibility of owning Furnace unit processes, thin film deposition, characterization and quality improvement projects as assigned by the Manager. Responsibilities will include working with other GlobalFoundries departments and teams (equipment team, process integration, device, yield and manufacturing teams) to meet cost, quality and cycle time targets for Fab8. The position will be responsible for batch furnace process developments, optimization, process transfer from other GlobalFoundries fabs, qualification and ramp to high volume manufacturing at advanced technology nodes.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and qualify batch furnace processes such as atomic layer deposition (ALD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and high temperature anneal for new technology development and technology transfer projects
  • Work in a cross functional environment of equipment, shift, manufacturing, integration and device teams to meet film uniformity (Cp/Cpk) targets, line yield and wafer sort yield targets
  • Design, execute and analyze experiments using techniques such as DOE (Design of Experiments) to screen and optimize lean manufacturing processes
  • Drive process qualifications on installed tools and implement process control plans (PCP)
  • Meet technology (process maturity, yield, and reliability) and manufacturing (throughput, cost of ownership) targets in coordination with Quality, Yield and Process Integration teams.
  • Use established methods of physical and chemical characterization of thin films (SEM, TEM, XPS, SIMS, AFM, etc) to assess and mitigate risks associated with process changes and improvements
  • Utilize structured problem solving techniques such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and 8D to troubleshoot process and defectivity issues and use statistical process control (SPC) to sustain and improve process capability
  • Drive continuous improvement projects in support of throughput improvement, cost reduction and yield improvements
  • Write technical reports and papers on process, equipment, and device integration improvement strategies and presents to a professional audience.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technology / Applied Sciences with minimum 8 years of experience in Semiconductor manufacturing / research or related industry
  • At Least 6 years of experience working with batch furnaces in 300mm wafer Fab as equipment or process owner
  • Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience using CVD / ALD film deposition techniques on furnaces, recipe creation and unit process development
  • Fluency in English Language - written & verbal

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Material, Chemical or related Sciences or Engineering with 6+ years of experience in chemical vapor deposition / Atomic layer deposition / high temperature anneal / diffusion processes in batch furnaces
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor / silicon processing and thin film characterization techniques
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and technical presentation skills
