**_Roles & Responsibilities:_**


+ Assists in the care of patients in Labor & Delivery and Maternal Infant Care Units under the direct supervision of the registered professional nurse Duties and Responsibilities: 1. 1. Assists in the care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and dirty supplies and equipment 2. 2. Demonstrates ability to apply principles of sterile technique 3. 3. Assists circulating nurse 4. 4. Assists in the safe transfer, identification, and positioning of patients according to accepted procedure 5. 5. Functions as a scrub technician or instrument technician as assigned 6. 6. Assists in the maintenance of a sanitary environment 7. 7. Assists in the preparation of the room for the next operation 8. 8. Cleans assembles equipment for surgical procedure trays 9. 9. Demonstrates ability to maintain and operate sterilizing apparatus 10. 10. Checks dates on supplies restocks supplies, and cleans cupboards 11. 11. Attends staff and educational meetings 12. 12. Works safely and provides for the safety of patients and others 13. 13. Provides direct physical care, and/or one to one observation to selected patients under the supervision 14. 14. Carries out procedures as taught and according to guidelines 15. 15. Assists with patients' examinations treatments and procedures 16. 16. Assists with lifting, positioning, moving, and ambulating patients using correct body mechanics as instructed 17. Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed 18. Escorts outside of the hospital as necessary 119. Alerts to the need for safety devices; apply or assists with the application of safety devices 20. Answers call lights, attends to the patient's needs, and/or reports patient's concerns and requests to the nurse 21. Reports pertinent information and observations regarding patients to the nurse 22. Communicates information and basic instructions to patients, families, and visitors 23. Participates in exchange of patient daily reports and nursing care conferences 24. Attends staff and education meetings 25. Works safely and provides for the safety of patients and others 26. Maintains neat and clean patient and service areas 27. Cleans equipment 28. Stocks and prepares the unit for admissions and discharges
