GENERAL SUMMARY:

During the packing season, serve as a mechanic for field operations and /or equipment operator. In the off-season, involved with the overhaul and repair of machinery and vehicles used in field operations.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the efficient operation of the pea combines and sweet corn pickers.

Maintain all equipment in good repair.

Responsible for the preventative maintenance, adjustments, and repair of field equipment.

Utilize harvesting procedures, which generate maximum crop recovery and quality.

Train employees to the safe, proper and efficient operation of equipment to which they are assigned.

Repair/overhaul field equipment during the off-season.

Enforce Company safety policies and procedures.

Must have a valid driver license to operate farm shop equipment.

Assist in accident investigations.

Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.

May perform other duties as assigned by the Manager/ Asst Field Manager.
Adhere to all Lakeside Foods policies and procedures.
Notify management immediately if any unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions are discovered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

Should have a general knowledge of farm machinery and operation. Two years technical school training in farm machinery maintenance, industrial mechanics, or related course work and/or one to two years equivalent work experience are beneficial. A complete set of tools for field machinery maintenance is needed.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence.
Ability to read, write, and speak English. Bilingual would be a plus.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
