Description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring that the Company s new car acquisitions, modifications, component purchases, component reconditioning, and freight car repairs meet AAR, FRA, and TTX Company requirements and that our supplier performance against such requirements is accurately reported to the Company s management. The majority of the assigned tasks requires extensive travel (30 weeks) and therefore is a candidate for working out of home office for the balance of the work time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for performing new and existing rail car and rail car component inspections and process audits for assigned new car manufacturing, freight car maintenance, and manufacturing supplier facilities for compliance with TTX, AAR and FRA requirements, including:
TTX specific requirements and instructions
Field Manual of the AAR Interchange Rules
AAR Manual of Standards & Recommended Practices
Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Railroad Freight Car Safety Standards
FRA Reflectorization of Rail Freight Rolling Stock
FRA Railroad Safety Appliance Standards
FRA Brake Systems Safety Standards for Freight and Other Non-Passenger Trains and Equipment; End-of-Train-Devices requirements.
Document inspections and/or audits in accordance to TTX procedures with accurate and robust details. Follow filing and reporting protocol consistently.
Provide technical assistance and/or facilitate activities at assigned locations to resolve product and process quality issues to enhance their ability to meet AAR, FRA, and TTX Company requirements.

Must be fully committed to safety, customer satisfaction, and continuous quality improvement, with a demonstrated history of performing duties safely.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

Self-motivated, with demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload with minimal direct supervision.
Minimum three (3) years of credentials in railroad inspection and repair and the ability to perform process and product audits in accordance with TTX procedures at:
Repair shop operations
New car manufacturing
Supplier activities
Field maintenance operations
Strong ability to communicate and interface with shop management, supervision, and other associated personnel to obtain an accurate situational assessment.
Requires the ability to read and interpret data, bend, stoop, climb and walk in an industrial and/or railroad environment.
A valid driver's license is required.
Requires the ability to obtain a TWIC card for access to ports around the country.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the following qualifications are preferred:

Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a related technical or management field.
AWS CWI or ASNT NDE Level II Certification(s).
Prior experience administering an AAR M-1003 compliant quality assurance program.
Previous ASQ or AAR Auditor training and experience working in Quality Assurance.
Proficient in computer software applications, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Due to inspections and product testing at customer facilities, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, use hands or fingers to handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit (remain stationary) and climb or balance. The employee is regularly required to move about (walk and stand). The employee must occasionally lift and/or transport up to 25 pounds. Correctable vision required for close, distance, or depth perception vision capabilities, and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
