Responsibilities

The Environmental Services Technician provides a full range of support necessary for regular, terminal, and isolation cleaning. A key part of this role's accountability is to ensure compliance standards are maintained during the cleaning of hospital specialty areas ( i.e. Operating Room Suites, CATH Labs, GI Labs, VARU, Pharmacy Compounding Lab, Vascular, Labor and Delivery Suites, etc.). More general duties include the following; 1) Proper removal, placement and transporting of waste (i.e. Solid, Chemotherapy, Bio-Hazard, Pharmaceutical, & Hot), recyclables, and other regulated materials; 2) Proper use of Ultra Violet Light devices; and 3) Changing out, removal and replacement of containers (Sharps, Pharmacy Waste, Bio-Hazard, & Chemo Therapy). Since this role is extremely visible to all stakeholders, the incumbent must have good customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff members, guests, patients and their families. Individuals will be trained and authorized to handle the proper duties in their assigned areas.

Environmental Services staff is responsible for performing duties in a variety of areas which may include one of the following:

Environmental Services Unit:

  • Environmental Services Technician - Housekeeper - The Environmental Services Technician provides a full range of support necessary for regular, terminal, and isolation cleaning.   • Floor Technician - The Environmental Floor Technicianprovides the full range of support necessary for regular, terminal, and isolation cleaning. Perform daily maintenance and major restoration of hard and carpeted surface areas in accordance with department and Wellstar Health System policies and procedures. Perform cleaning using the step process in areas as assigned. Conduct project cleaning of walls, entrances, common areas, windows vents, sidewalks, etc. as assigned. Adhere to all policies and procedures set by Wellstar Health System and the department. Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
  • Bed Control Liaison - Environmental Services - Responsible for the final preparation and delivery to patients in a professional, courteous and efficient manner. The Environmental Services Bed Control Liaison will collaborate with Bed Control Specialists and Environmental Services leadership to allocate the correct EVS personnel to the areas in most need, to ensure timely room turnover and patient bed availability. This position works in collaboration with the Command Center team to assist in the placement of the right patient in the right bed at the right time. Assists in oversight and management of discharged rooms by reducing time lags in the bed turnover process to ensure patient is placed in assigned bed within responsible time limits. Must have excellent computer, telephone, and customer services skills.
  • Supervisor - Environmental Services - (High School Diploma or GED Required) The Environmental Services Supervisor functions under the direction of the Manager/Director of the Environmental Services Department to ensure the cleanliness of Wellstar facilities. Planning, organizing, scheduling and supervising department activities carried out on each shift. Will continuously make rounds of the campus to determine special assignments and/or project work it needs, to ensure all employees are completing all daily work assignments and are complying with all Wellstar and department policies and practices. Responsible for staff evaluations, interviewing, training, developing and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead Environmental Services - Night Shift (High School Diploma or GED required) The Lead Environmental Services Technician is responsible for carrying out set plans and leading department activities such as huddles and coordination of labor during their shift to ensure all hospital areas are safe, orderly and in sanitary condition in the absence of the supervisor. The job may entail access, cleaning or transporting of hazardous, pharmaceutical, chemotherapy, chemical, soiled or other regulated materials. Perform cleaning of public areas, patient rooms, surgical suites, ancillary, administrative offices, and physician areas to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment for staff, patients, physicians, and visitors. This position is exposed to hazardous materials and a variety of infectious diseases.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent preferred (Bed Control Liasion, EVS Technician - Housekeepers, Floor Technician) Supervisor and Lead EVS - High School or GED required).

Required Minimum Experience: Hospital - Environmental Services experience and customer service experience highly preferred.
