WATER PRACTICE
Michael Baker International's Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.
DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a Water Practice Department Manager to join the team in our Denver, CO, office. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding Michael Baker International's water, wastewater, and reclaimed water business within the Western Region. This role leverages the strength of the entire Water Practice and current client base that we service on a national basis. As part of the Western Region, the opportunity also exists for the successful candidate to facilitate project workshare and best practices across all Regional offices. Typically, our projects involve supporting our clients within the Federal, Transportation, Water Resources, Commercial Development, Industrial and Energy market sectors. A willingness and ability to travel within the western United States is required. This is a unique opportunity to oversee the development of a Water/Wastewater Practice to complement an already strong Surface Water Practice in Denver, and to also contribute to a strong water practice in the western US. The responsibilities include project/program management, staff development, client development and lead business and strategy development.
Primary responsibilities include business development, client management, operational oversight, staff development, project/program management, and leadership
Meet with existing clients to identify upcoming opportunities and confirm performance on existing contracts
Monitor and implement strategies to fulfill business performance objectives
Develop new client relationships
Coordinate with other offices to facilitate workshare, the implementation of best practices and developing work with those offices requiring water/wastewater engineering services
Accompany other Practice Leaders at client meetings to further develop business with existing clients
Lead strategic pursuits and QA technical and cost proposals
Ensure QA/QC procedures are being implemented on all department projects
Provide technical oversight and guidance of engineering solutions
Conduct operational meetings with staff to review and evaluate workload, resource planning, project performance, and business development opportunities
Lead team at every opportunity to articulate the Denver Office vision and establish your personal standards for professionalism, team work, quality, and technical excellence
Interview and hire new staff to fulfill current project needs while also planning for the future of the business
Mentor engineering personnel in their technical and management competencies to help them achieve their career objectives
Identify training opportunities for staff consistent with their career objectives
Provide honest, prompt, and constructive feedback to personnel
Attend and participate in industry events
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
15-20 years of civil and/or environmental engineering experience in design and management of civil, water and/or wastewater engineering projects
Local P.E. license, or have the ability to obtain one
Strong leader and business builder that wants to be empowered to develop this great opportunity
Strategic thinker with the ability to envision a successful water practice
Knowledge of local, regional, and national water practice initiatives
Proven supervisory skills
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts
Recruitment skills to assist in hiring additional personnel
