Construction Inspector

Locations: We have openings in Tucson AZ and Phoenix AZ.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Construction Inspector will perform contract item inspections for ensuring compliance with plans and specifications on all phases of highway or bridge construction projects. The employee is expected to adhere to ethics, policies, and practices as established by our client.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigate and respond to complaints relating to drainage problems, easements, rights-of-way, streets, alleys, and construction activities.
  • Coordinate the activities of contractor and other departments/divisions and outside organizations relating to the maintenance of drainage easements, street and alley rights-of-way and construction activities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records for Street, Traffic and Drainage divisions.
  • Collect data and maintains inventories of City infrastructure and prepares quantity reports on infrastructure rehabilitation; input inventory data into the City G.I.S. Program.
  • Assist in the coordination and conduct of on-site field inspections of construction/ public works projects to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Review construction plans and job specifications to ensure compliance by contractors.
  • Maintain records and files on status of assigned projects.
  • Investigate complaints related to assigned projects and take appropriate action.
  • Direct inspectors in interpretation of plans and conduct field inspections of projects with assigned inspectors.

Skills / Competencies:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of state and local construction specifications and software systems
  • Clean driving record
  • Some travel required

Physical Requirements

  • The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking conducting inspections to identify problems or hazards.
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or tablet, to operate standard office equipment, to turn faucets on and off, conduct tests and to operate tools and equipment.
  • Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information, obtain samples, and set up equipment.
  • Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Education and Experience

  • Experience in transportation-related construction projects is preferred
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade 1 and SRDT Field Technician Certification is preferred
