JOB DESCRIPTION

The LNG Technician (Mechanical) reports directly to the Mechanical Supervisor and is a member of multi-disciplined crew responsible for the operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import/export and re-gasification terminal including LNG process systems infrastructure controls and emergency response and operation of rotating equipment. Dedication sensitivity to safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures is essential for the safe reliable and efficient operation of the terminal. The successful candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment with the bulk of their time performing field work including inspection testing service and repair. The LNG Technician (Mechanical) works on complex and detailed systems troubleshoots and repairs pumps compressors gas turbines motors vessels utilities piping tanks unloading arms etc. and replaces component parts as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific job responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for performing preventive maintenance inspections using portable test equipment; Performing required engineering functions for equipment modifications.
  • Maintaining drawings and configuration documentation as related to Mechanical.
  • Performing equipment/system upgrades and/or modifications
  • Possibly training and guiding less experienced Technicians and addressing Operators' system concerns
  • Perform line handling and other duties needed for loading/unloading of LNG ships
  • Trains on environmental safety operations and security procedures
  • Operates the facility recognizing the safety and environmental consequences of actions taken
  • Achieves the highest levels of environmental and safety compliance.
  • May perform the duties of a LNG technician in a rotational shift environment including holiday weekends and nights
  • Performs all duties applying safety protocols and adhering to regulatory mandates.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Associate LNG Technician (Mechanical)

  • 0-2 years' experience in an industrial setting working in a mechanical field where hands on craft experience is gained.

LNG Technician (Mechanical)

  • Three (3) years' experience in an industrial setting working in a mechanical field where hands on craft experience is gained.

Sr. LNG Technician (Mechanical)

  • Five (5) years' experience in a mechanical setting working in a Mechanical and/or Controls setting or similar related field including related military experience.
  • Preferred: Experience in power generation, LNG production/processing or petrochemical industries considered a plus. Completion of a formal craft training program is a plus.

For All Levels

  • Understands the process equipment and LNG process systems and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Understands all plant utilities, including air, water, power generation, sanitation and nitrogen, the loading/unloading of LNG ships
  • Understands operation and maintenance of pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vessels, utilities, piping, tanks, unloading arms, etc.
  • Applied knowledge of pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vessels, utilities, piping, tanks, unloading arms, etc., and component parts
  • Competency in performing equipment preventive maintenance activities as required
  • Previous work experience demonstrating technical knowledge of Mechanical equipment and repair
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Ability to provide guidance and/or training to less experienced Technicians and Operators
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral and written communication skills, technical writing skills, Mechanical skills, and mathematical skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems
  • Ability to conduct site inspections or walk downs, including working at heights
  • Ability to maintain drawings and configuration documentation as related to Mechanical.

Education
Associate (Typically two years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)

Preferred Degree
Mechanical, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Technology

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, Qualifications or Standards
Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
